The go-bag

One backpack per family member, packed and standing by the front door. No more than 10 kg for an adult woman and 15 kg for a man: you may have to carry it on foot, possibly down from the ninth floor.

The siren has sounded

You have roughly two minutes. Do not spend them looking for a charger or checking the news — everything you need should already be in the backpack by the door.

• Get dressed and put shoes onClosed shoes and solid clothing, even if it is hot outside and you are in pyjamas.
• Take the bag, your phone and documentsIf there is not enough time for everything, take documents and medicine; the rest can be bought.
• Shut off gas, water and appliancesOnly if it takes seconds. Your life is worth more than the flat.
• Use the stairs, never the liftThe lift stops the moment the power goes, and you stay inside the shaft.
• Warn your neighbours, help the elderly and people with limited mobilityEspecially those who live alone and may not hear the siren.

The two-wall rule

The first minutes after a hit

The most dangerous moment is not the explosion itself but what people do right after it.

• Check yourself, then othersIn shock you may not feel a wound. Run your hands over yourself and look at your palms for blood.
• Stop life-threatening bleedingFirm direct pressure on the wound. If blood is spurting from a limb, apply a tourniquet above the wound, not over a joint, and write the time straight on the skin.
• Call for help103 for an ambulance, 101 for rescuers. Give the address, the number of casualties and what happened.
• Wait for the official all-clearSilence does not mean the attack is over.
• Leave carefullyWatch your feet and above you: broken slate, glass, downed wires, unstable structures.
